Shelf Candy Saturday #4

Shelf Candy Saturday is a weekly meme hosted by Five Alarm Books! It gives you the chance to showcase books that have caught your attention in some way!

Reached by Ally Condie

Why it's shelf candy:

Random thought: Did you realize that the more you look at a word or title, the more you think it's spelled wrong? Lol that's what happened to me while writing this post. I kept looking at the word reached and was like, "Is that right?!" Lol anyway, I digress.

This series is mind-blowingly gorgeous!! I haven't even read any of these books yet, but... they're so pretty! I love how the backgrounds are plain and artless because then, all my attention goes straight to the girl.

Matched (Matched, #1)Crossed (Matched, #2)Reached (Matched, #3)

They are simple, but convey such a strong message. The covers are related to each other and it's gradual process that tells a story in and of itself. The first one starts out caged, trapped, and isolated. The second one is all about breaking through and fighting back (I'm guessing?). The third one shows that the girl is finally learning to stand on her own two feet. Check out the ball in Reached. It's cracked, jagged, and damaged, whereas, the girl is beautiful, proud, and ready! (Ready to do what, I don't know.)

One of the main things that I find so interesting about these covers is the fact that they are kind of cold and distanced. There are no warm colors that invite me in. The girl trapped in the ball is ways away from me...

These covers get me soo pumped up to read the books! Ahh love it! If you've read this series then what's your take on 'em?

  2. Happy Saturday! Thanks for dropping by and commenting on my Shelf Candy post!

Yes, this is a great cover, as are the two previous ones! The image of the girl being confined to the bubble, in the first book, is very eye-catching and disbturbing. Then, in the second book, she starts to break out of the bubble, and one can feel her determination, as well as her struggle to break through. Finally, in the last book, she's free! She's standing up amid the ruins of the bubble, tall and proud!

The colors are lovely in all three covers, too! And you're right -- the simplicity of the background places emphasis on the girl and her circumstances.

    Awesome picks!! : )

  3. I love the Ally Condie covers. They are so well coordinated and show that they are a part of the series and still have such individual qualities. Great post!

  4. I haven't read this series either but one of the reasons I want to is because of the cover, the movement in them is amazing. I also like the way the cover shines in print format.

  6. I love these covers and this series. I can't wait for Reached to come out! I agree with you about the font makes it seemed misspelled the more you look at it :) Great pick.

  7. I loved the first book, but not as much the second. However, I'm dying to read the third one and find out how this story ends!

The covers are gorgeous and I just can't stop staring at them!

  8. I haven't read this series either, but love the covers! I've been hearing mixed reviews about it, but some of my favorite bloggers haven't really enjoyed it so I'm not sure if I'll give it a try.

  9. I've seen these covers before but never took notice of the progression of the girl breaking free. Very interesting! And I can't help but wonder why we can't see the girl's face on any of the covers.

I also love the detail of the glass
